FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ABOUT LAUREL OF LIFE
-
We offer personalized birth education and coaching designed to help you feel informed, prepared, and empowered throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Sessions cover topics such as pregnancy, labor, birth planning, partner support, postpartum preparation, newborn basics, and birth-story reflection.
-
A birth coach helps you prepare through education, planning, and personalized support. We help you understand your options, strengthen your self-advocacy skills, prepare your partner to be involved, and feel more confident participating in decisions throughout your journey.
-
Our services are for any mother who wants more than simply showing up and hoping for the best. We support women who want to understand their options, prepare intentionally, and take an active role in conversations about their care.
-
We are virtual childbirth educators and birth coaches, not doulas, and we do not attend births in person. Our focus is preparing you before you enter the birth room. If you want continuous in-person labor support, a local doula may be a helpful addition to your care team.
-
Our sessions are private, two-on-one, and tailored to your goals, questions, circumstances, and birth preferences. Instead of moving through a set group curriculum, you choose the topics most relevant to you. We also support preparation beyond labor and delivery, including pregnancy and postpartum.
TIMING + EXPERIENCE
-
Absolutely not. We have supported mothers preparing for later births who still left with pages of notes, new questions, and a stronger understanding of their options. Every pregnancy and birth can bring a different experience.
-
You can begin whenever you are ready. We often aim to start around 12 weeks so sessions can be spread comfortably across pregnancy, but we can create a plan that fits your current timeline.
-
It is not too late. We have worked with mothers who reached out at 36 weeks and completed sessions on an accelerated schedule. Reach out, and we will help you focus on the most useful topics for the time you have.
-
You are welcome here exactly as you are. A difficult birth can leave fear, unanswered questions, or uncertainty about what you want next. Our sessions offer space to learn, ask questions, reflect on what happened, and explore future options without judgment. Our support is educational and reflective; when clinical mental health support would be helpful, we encourage working with a licensed professional.

BIRTH PREFERENCES & CARE
-
Yes. Personalized Birth Planning is one of our available sessions. We can help you explore your preferences, understand common decisions, and organize a clear plan to discuss with your licensed care team.
-
We can provide general education about common interventions and help you develop questions for your provider. We do not give medical advice or tell you which option to choose. Medical recommendations and decisions should be discussed with a qualified healthcare professional who knows your individual circumstances.
-
Not at all. We support mothers with many different birth preferences, including medicated and unmedicated births. Our goal is for you to understand your options and feel respected in the choices you make with your care team.
-
You are absolutely welcome. We help hospital-birth families prepare for the environment, understand common conversations and options, clarify preferences, and build questions for their care team.
-
Yes. Shelbie and Taylor both have personal experience with home birth, and we support families who are exploring or planning this setting. Decisions about birth location and clinical eligibility should always be made with qualified, licensed maternity-care professionals who understand your health and pregnancy.
-
You are welcome here. Choosing pain medication does not make education any less valuable. We can help you understand labor, prepare questions, explore comfort and support options, and think through preferences for the rest of your experience.
-
Birth education can still help you prepare emotionally and practically, understand the general flow of the day, identify questions for your surgical care team, and plan for postpartum support. We will shape sessions around your circumstances while keeping medical guidance with your licensed providers.
PARTNERS & POSTPARTUM
-
Yes. Partners are welcome at every session. Our Partner Prep session is specifically designed to help them take a confident, hands-on role throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and early postpartum, so their attendance is required for that session.
-
Yes. Our postpartum offerings include preparation before birth, newborn basics, a birth-story debrief, and a postpartum check-in. This is educational and emotional support within our coaching scope, not medical care, therapy, lactation treatment, or emergency support.
